Book

Ok, so the book "As a Man Thinketh" that Dad gave us for Christmas has a chapter on page 24 called "Effect of Thought on Health and the Body". It's very interesting....the whole book is, but I thought I'd have you all read this chapter if you haven't read the book yet. On 25-26 it says, "Change of diet will not help a man who will not change his thoughts. When a man makes his thoughts pure, he no longer desires impure food." Is that true??? That's what I find myself asking on every single page of the book, HA! I guess we talked about that last week, if you feel crummy, you eat crummy. The chapter is short, but it's interesting on how they talk about how your attitude affects your health.

  1. It really is amazing what your mind can do. But I think that if you are changing your diet then your mind has begun a change because you are the one that decided to make the change. ??? That sounded confusing. :) I need to read that book.

  2. You'll remember at the beginning of the book, the Forword says, "[The book} is suggestive rather than explanatory, its object being to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that--'They themselves are makers of themselves' by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage; that mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance, and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness." In Latter-day Saint terms, Section 88 helps us to understand that the Spirit of the Holy Ghost speaks directly to the spirit in each of our bodies, and our will (choice) to move our bodies in faith to be guided by that pure knowledge, will ultimately cause a physical change in our appearance. In Moses, we also learn that all things were created spiritually, before they existed temporally. Joseph Smith Jr told us that the closer a man comes to God, similar features would be present in all. The Barbie and Ken (or Tony) physical characteristics that are sought after and worshipped by the world are patterns manufacured in Babylon, and encourage lustful desires in humans. As Paul reminded his son, Timothy, "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come." The challenge we generally have with physical health, is that we don't want to eat what's good for us, and we don't want our brow sweaty; easy is easier, and the finer things of life are easier, because someone else produces them and makes them taste sumptous. Does this program have spell checker? Anyways, I guess I better sign in and report our stats. Good talking to you, and glad you're finding some puzzles. Love ya!
